How to Measure and fit a Standard Buckle Collar:
How to Measure for a Martingale Collar:
1) Around the mid-part of the neck, just where you want the collar to lie. (Shown as B in photo). This is the most important measurement I need to customize to your collar. To measure your dog’s neck size, use a cloth measuring tape and pull it tight enough so there is no slack. This will be your dog's exact neck size to enter in the space provided.
2) Around the widest part of the head, just in front of the ears. (Shown as A in photo). This is because Martingale collars do not open to go around your dog's neck but rather they slip over the dog's head.
3.) Don't forget to add an inch or two to the exact measurements when ordering the collar size. The collar will be too tight if you use the exact neck size. The martingales are adjustable, so measure your dog and find the collar size where your measurements fit in the middle.
What is a Martingale Collar?
A martingale is a type of dog collar that provides more control over the animal without the choking effect of a choke chain or slip collar.
Martingale Dog collars are also known as Greyhound Collars or Humane Choke Dog Collar. The Martingale Dog Collar was designed for sighthounds because their necks are larger than their heads and they can often slip out of buckle collars. These collars have gained popularity among other breed owners in the recent past with many trainers now recommending them instead of choke chains or choke collars.
